Painting at Solva

                                                           Solva, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Acrylic on board
12"x10"
At present we are on holiday in Wales and choosing to ignore the weather forecast, we decided to take a walk down into Solva, and explore along by the harbour, then a short way up on the coastal path. We found a seat where I could paint this most wonderful view. The sunshine was glorious and we enjoyed the conversations with passers-by who would stop to take a peeky look!

Poem : Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones

I danced across the stepping stones
To get to the other side.
Across the fast rushing waters
Of a river deep and wide.
Each step left a footprint
That showed where I had been
Soon to be bathed in sunlight
No longer to be seen.
I reached for the arms of Jesus
To take me and hold me close.
Trusted that He would catch me,
In Him, my faith, it rose.
He swept me up and put me down
Where He wanted me to be
In safety I'd not known before
Gently, He had set me free.
Back I looked at troubles past
The stones I'd danced across.
The obstacles that had broken me
Caused me so much loss.
Shattered, they had no active power
I stood on solid ground.
They lay upon the river bed
I was no longer bound.
The river lay unhindered
God's love brought colour to my world.
A garden grew up around me
I thrived and Truth unfurled.
I can dance on the things that break my heart
I can overcome the pain
I stand not alone, His Victory's been won
True freedom I have, to gain.

Playing with Colour

This piece is simply me having fun with colour and getting the feeling of having a paintbrush back in my hand.

Abstract, call it what you like. I love it because of the freedom I felt in doing it.
It is done with acrylics on gesso primed canvas. 10"x12"

ACQ Patchwork Challenge

Our challenge here was to make a wallhanging or quilt measuring no more than 36" square, using stripes and circles with the dominant colour being purple, one secondary colour and a neutral.
This is the result of my effort

I did keep closely to my remit though did add a few little embellishments, namely three butterflies and various buttons and beads.
The machine quilting in straight lines running in all different directions and a cm apart was something I hadn't done before. Also finishing off the edges with a facing rather than a border.
This piece measures approx. 36"x24"

My Favourite Shoe, Sweet Peas, a Teapot, jug and a candlestick

My favourite shoe - that is to draw of course, belongs to P.

It would be much harder I think to draw the pair so thankfully I could only lay my hands on one.

Other things I thought I'd have a go at drawing were Sweet Peas grown and picked from the garden...

... a Teapot and Jug to be found on the kitchen window sill, never in use but bought in Devon as a souvenir from a potter many years ago.

... and a cranberry glass candlestick which isn't perfect as you can see but not a bad attempt!

Still Life Drawings

This week I have entered into my second week of art classes and attempted to draw from a still life composition set up by the tutor who has encouraged us to try different ways of approaching the task.

I loved what I was able to do here. The third one is perhaps my favourite.

Art classes

Well, spontaneity is often the fun way to start something new and so I find I have signed up for a course of art classes on the spur of the moment with an immediate start. So this week I am starting with drawing an apple.

The tutor is encouraging me not to restrict myself to only a couple of pencils that I might get drawn to using. We are essentially looking at tone, light and shadow.
